Two pumps are needed to be operated at the same time, when they shift wave and flow in cycles. Flow rate can be adjusted by “SPEED/FEED” One or more pumps can operate at the same time. But adding a wave maker can be very beneficial for certain tank/fish setups. It is a random mode as the power of pump is changing to a random data all the time without regulation. Having an air pump with an air stone or even a simple sponge filter setup will provide surface agitation for proper oxygen transfer. The power various between 30%-100% and the regulation looks like a sine curve. One or more pumps can operate at the same time in this mode. I prefer a wave maker, as it doesnt produce one narrow constant stream of current like a power head. 2 Buy a small wave maker or powerhead and use that to produce current on the other side. Tips: You should switch the knob gradually and notice the wave pattern in a certain period after each adjustment.Press “SPEED/FEED”to adjust the flow rate. Few options 1 add another filter on the other side the tank. The wave is biggest when wave length turn to be same as the length of tank Increase the wave length by switching the knob in clockwise, and reduce in anti clockwise. It provides surface agitation, water circulation, and helps calm the aggression in. As the volum of water in tank is different from the capacity of the tank, wave period needed to be adjusted by switching the knob. Your Aquarium Wave Maker Position works best when positioned correctly.

Remoting the knob is necessary when operate this mode to adjust the wave patterns among one or more pumps at the same time.

The Rubber is Base on FS Series to Design But, if I did do a wave maker I might want to up the pump size or maybe add a third? I'm not sure one of these could move the whole tank very well if oscillating. I figured if I didn't like it I at least had a couple of power heads to mix salt or whatever. I really was considering a wave maker solution, but once I dialed these guys in I was happy. I had them originally setup both blowing towards the front, but it was too much flow along the bottom and kept kicking up sand. The way I have it gives me nice flow across the top and right side with some calmer areas on the left. There is constant turbulence as the flow patterns from each power head collide with the return in the middle. This creates an overall circular flow pattern around the tank and the surface pushes toward the overflow. The return pump is on the front right and I have it blowing diagonally back towards the left pump.

Yes, you are correct with placement as I did it to mimic a gyer flow around the tank.
